G2 & G Road Test — Vehicle Requirements
Cars, vans, and small trucks used for Class G graduated licensing tests
Your examiner will cancel the exam if the test vehicle is unsafe. Bring a roadworthy vehicle with valid documents and working safety features.
Required documents in the vehicle
- Valid vehicle registration (ownership / permit)
- Valid liability insurance (pink slip) present in the vehicle
- Licence plate properly displayed and readable
Safety & equipment check
- Lights: headlights, brake lights, turn signals, hazard lights
- Controls: horn, windshield wipers, seatbelts for driver and examiner
- Tires: adequate tread, properly inflated, no unsafe damage
- Windshield & mirrors: clear view; mirrors adjusted and intact
- Dashboard: no active warning lights that indicate the vehicle is unsafe (e.g. check engine, airbag, brake warnings)
- No major body damage that could be unsafe or block vision
Day-of-test procedure
- Arrive 15–30 minutes early. Park as directed (often reverse into the spot so you can pull out forward).
- Check in at the DriveTest Centre kiosk or counter and confirm your licence plate.
- Return to the vehicle and wait for the examiner with the window down / ready for the safety inspection.
- If the examiner does not arrive within 30 minutes of your appointment time, return to the customer service / dispatch counter.

M
M & M2 Motorcycle — Vehicle & Gear Requirements
Motorcycle road tests (seasonal — typically mid-May to mid-October)
Motorcycle examiners will turn you away if protective gear is incomplete or the motorcycle is not roadworthy. Bring a safe bike and full riding gear.
Mandatory protective gear
- Helmet & vision: certified, undamaged motorcycle helmet with a visor, or helmet plus safety glasses / goggles
- Jacket: heavy-duty motorcycle or leather jacket
- Pants: durable long pants suitable for riding
- Gloves: full-fingered leather or heavy riding gloves
- Footwear: sturdy boots that fully cover and protect the ankles
Motorcycle vehicle requirements
- Documentation & plate: valid registration, pink insurance slip, and a properly mounted, clean licence plate
- Lighting & controls: working turn signals, brake lights, headlight, horn, and engine kill switch
- Mechanical condition: safe tires with proper tread, fully operational brakes, and no active fluid leaks
- Bike must be suitable for the licence class you are testing for
What motorcycle tests typically include
- Slow-speed control (e.g. slalom) without putting a foot down
- Sharp turns from a stop within marked boundaries
- Emergency / controlled stops and swerves
- Smooth curved stops and overall bike control
